How to survive the Leach in the new year
Do NOT forget your locker number
It's that time of year again– New Year's resolutions are in full swing and gym memberships are finally being put to use. As a Campus Rec employee for the last two and half years, I have noticed the trends of capacity at the Bobby E. Leach Center. If you value your workout time and despise the idea of jumping in on a machine between someone else's sets, here's what you need to know.
The gym will be packed between 3 and 8pm
Try working out early in the morning, right after the ROTC and the 8am students have left. 6am is no longer a time of solitude, everyone has somehow found out that the early bird gets the worm and they are taking full advantage! Sleep in a little later and you'll have a better chance at getting a squat rack all to yourself.
Bring your own towel
If you do happen to go in the afternoon, there is exactly a five percent chance you will get a towel. Towels are no longer mandatory, so while you may be sweaty, it's the perfect time to show off your post-workout glow. And if you can't get a towel, it's not the front desk's fault — the washers and dryers can only work so quickly.
Remember your locker number
Sometimes your initial intake of the Leach can be stressful and picking out a locker can make it even worse, but once you've finally found the one for you, DON'T FORGET IT! The best way to remember which one is yours is to take a picture with your phone. If you don't workout with your phone, make your combination the locker number. For example, if your locker is 35 then your combo will be 3535 or 0035. If you do happen to forget, the staff will be happy to help you look.
Have fun with it!
You have a free membership which includes group fitness classes, if your sick of working out on your own, sign up for a class, become a regular and make a gym buddy that does similar stuff, or just try to stick with your goal and make 2018 the best one yet beause lets face it, 2017 was nobody's year.
