With information provided by the Gun Violence Archive, a new interactive map by Slate reveals the deaths by guns throughout the country – specifically in your neighborhood.

In 2015, the nearest shooting to the center of Georgetown’s campus was less than half a mile away. All three of the shootings were in the winter months – January, February, and March.

The first shooting took place on January 11th, on the 200 block of T Street NE. The fatal incident brought the death of 17-year-old Andrew Newman, whose relatives said Andrew was “at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

The next shooting was less than a month later, on February 8th, on the 200 block of Q Street.

The third shooting, on March 12th, was a fatal shooting involving police. The 35-year-old victim, Bobby Gross, was killed by police after approaching officers with a “large, stick-like object” in the westbound tracks of the Potomac Avenue Station.
