DC issued $1 million in parking tickets after the blizzard

The snow was not the only thing piling up over the weekend — so were our parking tickets. In fact since Storm Jonas hit us last Friday, a massive 656 card have been towed and parking tickets have soared to over $1 million.

Some have even been charged $250 tickets, $100 for the towing fee and $25 until their cars were picked up. The fines total to $65,000 with parking tickets totalling $1,078,000.

Eager to clean up Jonas’ aftermath, the District has not been so lenient on street lawbreakers.

Whilst many cars and sidewalks remain trapped under mounds of snow, the District continues to ticket vehicles regarded as “road hazards”.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has warned citizens that they should park their cars no more than 12 inches from a curb and not on a snow bank. Any vehicle considered an obstacle to snow removal will be towed.

DC’s snow emergency only ended at 6.30pm yesterday but things are still icy, and seems DC drivers are still pretty broke.
