Michigan grad student missing after plane crashes in Canada
The student seems to have mysteriously vanished and was not found at the crash site.
In an incident that has so far stumped the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security (DPS), a graduate student has gone missing after renting a small plane from the Ann Arbor Airport.
The student, who has so far not been identified, was last seen on Wednesday, March 15th, the day he rented the plane, according to DPS spokesperson Diane Brown.
In a statement released by the Ontario Provincial Police, authorities say the plane was found in a remote area about 37 miles east of Marathon, a small town bordering Lake Superior. This puts the student about 463 miles northwest of Ann Arbor when his plane crashed at around 11:38 p.m. Wednesday night.
Here’s where the real mystery comes in. Police say that not only did they not find the student in the wreckage, but according to MLive, the media coordinator for Ontario police, Sgt. Peter Leon, said that there was nothing to suggest the pilot was in the plane at the time of the crash.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is currently investigating, and DPS is hopeful that more information will be available soon.
