The next day is always the hardest
One minute you're standing front row at a Sam Hunt show, the next you're back to taking orders at your waitressing job. The high that comes from attending a high-energy concert always has to come to an end and you always have to go back to reality. Sometimes it's hard to readjust and get back to living in the moment when all you want is to be back with in the crowd, singing along to the songs you know every word to.
This experience is what music fans call post-concert depression. It might be somewhat of an exaggerated term (by no means meant to belittle real depression), but there's a strong argument for it being a real phenomenon.
Most concerts involve lots of energy and intensity, or the good ones do. When you really connect with the songs an artist is playing, you get a little more emotional and raw.
The music is loud and you're probably sweaty from dancing and jumping around. That's a lot for your brain to process. It's one of the few times in life that it's hard not to be 100% in the moment. All that really matters is what's right in front of you and the contentment you're feeling.
But once the concert is over and the ringing in your ears subsides, reality hits like a freight train and the bliss you were once feeling turns to nostalgia. Lyrics from the songs circle through your mind and watching the videos on your phone makes you even sadder. It's hard to come down from cloud 9.
In the days following the concert, things start to get a little easier. Eventually it's all a blur, it feels like it's been a year since you were there instead of just a few weeks. You might smile when you think about the joy you felt but now the only way to describe it is bittersweet, maybe melancholy.
One day you'll get an email about another great show coming to town so you'll quickly buy a ticket and the vicious cycle will start all over again. The excitement, the noise, the crowd and the bliss.
