Pitt Running Back James Conner returns to throw the first pitch at MLB Opening Day

The Pittsburgh Pirates welcome Conner to their field during his battle with cancer

Pitt football’s biggest star, James Conner, threw the first pitch today at PNC Park where the Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals opened the regular season at PNC Park.

On Dec. 4, Conner announced that he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and said his chemotherapy regimen would last six months. He has participated in spring practices in between treatments and hopes to play next season, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Conner has had phenomenal support from the Pitt community. Fans have expressed their support and awe at Conner’s strength and confidence through his battle with cancer.

He has also had support from fellow players and his coach, Pat Narduzzi.

Congratulation, Mr. Conner. We wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you back on the field in the fall!
