How to struggle through to the end of term at Rutgers

‘I pray a lot, it keeps me sane’

Only a few days to go before Thanksgiving break and the pressure is on. With just a few weeks left in the semester, we’re all struggling to keep up with the never-ending piles of work sitting at the edge of our beds.

Thankfully, your fellow Rutgers students are here to help with some of their best tips for getting through the rest of the semester.

Take a “quick” study break and check out their recommendations

Daniel Israel

Daniel Israel

Daniel Israel, a Journalism and Media Studies major, said it’s all about balance.

Aaron Kessler, a Psychology major, said: “It’s all about being outside and getting that fresh air.”

So whether it’s biking, skateboarding, or just going for a walk outside, head out into the open air and catch some much needed vitamin D – because, let’s face it, as college students, we don’t get outside much. Especially when we’re stuck in the library for days on end.

Thomas Krapin

Thomas Krapin, a Psychology major, says you need to surround yourself with positive people.

He added: “It’s important to remember who your friends are and who will help you get through the most difficult things, especially during the school year when difficult things happen all the time.”

Hanging out with friends will always cheer you up during those draining exam count down days.

Samantha Glass

Samantha Glass, an English major, tells it like it is. She said: “I will get through the semester in one piece by studying really hard and going to the library. I take a lot of breaks, I drink lots of coffee.”

Alexandra Singh

Alexandra Singh, a Journalism and Media Studies major, said: “Just buckle down and study, and try not to overwhelm yourself.

“For those of you who are really stressed, take a break every now and then, I know I do. If you’re trying to study and do six things at once, don’t, because you won’t put enough time into each thing that you need to.”

Let’s take things one step at a time. Netflix now, homework later…

Zach Beacher

Zach Beacher, a Spanish major, takes the healthy route.

He said: “I plan to drink a lot of tea and take care of myself as much as possible and not push myself too hard.” Tea is great for keeping you awake and keeping your cold from getting worse.

“Taking care of your health is definitely most important.”

Loyala Fernandez

Loyala Fernandez, a Public Health major, said: “I pray everyday, which keeps me sane, and I call home every day, which also keeps me sane.

“I try to take a deep breath and remind myself that grades don’t define me. It’s me that defines me, my personality.”

Ekaterina Luzgin

Ekaterina Luzgin, a Finance and Marketing major, talks time management.

She said: “You need to allot a specific amount of time to each homework assignment, when I study I have to make sure that I manage my time wisely so I don’t spend too much time studying one subject.”

Bhavika Thakkar

Bhavika Thakkar, a Public Health major, gets through the tough homework days by taking advantage of last minute things on campus, like Winter Wishes, a RUPA program where she will buy a gift for a pre-school girl for the holidays.

She said: “Random acts of kindness kind of just motivate me to not stress out about exams so much.”

Regardless of which tip you use, remember: you will survive.

Just keep swimming…
