Rutgers student dies in snowboarding accident
She was on a spring break trip
20-year-old Euna Shin died in a snowboarding accident at Blue Mountain Ski Resort in Pennsylvania Thursday evening.
A second-year Honors College student and Biomedical Engineering major from Piscataway, N.J., Euna had been on a spring break trip with friends when she suffered head injuries from a fall Wednesday around 4:30 p.m. that proved to be fatal. According to the Lehigh County, Pa. coroner, she was wearing a helmet.
After being transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, she was pronounced dead at 5:36 p.m. Thursday.
The resort issued a statement saying the incident was under investigation. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the victim and her family," a spokeswoman said.
As a graduate of Piscataway High School, Euna was an involved student, participating in the school's renowned marching band. Her musical talent even landed her a place in the Garden State Jazz Orchestra (GSJO).
"GSJO will never be the same with the loss of our saxophonist, Euna Shin, who tragically passed away earlier this week," they posted on Facebook Saturday morning. "She was a vibrant, ambitious, and brilliant young woman whose passion will live on in our hearts forever."
