I swapped all of my jeans for men’s jeans and I’m never going back
Death to skinny jeans
According to Ben Franklin, the only certain things in life are death, taxes, and the fact that women's jeans are consistently made with pockets barely large enough to fit a quarter. What can I say, he was ahead of his time.
I am a firm believer that it is acceptable to wear jeans all year-round. I would rather wear ripped up jeans all summer than a pair of shorts. With women's jeans, though, come the usual complaints: small or nonexistent pockets, random numbers for sizing, and the lack of consistency in sizing across stores. Also, when did skinny jeans become so skinny it takes about 27 minutes to put them on?
For these reasons, plus the fact I needed a couple new pairs of jeans, I decided to buy myself a few pairs of men's jeans and see if the grass is really greener.
To begin my swap, I went to Old Navy (who, thankfully, was having a buy one, get one 50 percent off sale). I found that there wasn't as much color variety as there would have been in women's jeans, but almost every style was the same.
I grabbed a few pairs of skinny jeans and a few pairs of straight cut jeans in a bunch of different sizes. Having worn number-sized jeans all my life, I had no clue how long my legs were or what my waist measurement was. I decided to play it safe and take an armful of jeans in about eight different sizes, hoping to find the perfect fit.

Upon finding the perfect size, I was amazed. They actually fit perfectly, didn't take long at all to put on, and were incredibly comfortable. The best part was, because of the way men's jeans are measured, you can actually find a pair that fits your waist and leg length. Imagine living in a world where jeans aren't too tight or too big on your waist, and aren't dragging on the ground or unveiling your untanned ankles. This is utopia.
I loved my new jeans so much that I went over to Target to get more jeans. Women's jeans have notoriously varied sizing from store to store, and I was expecting the same for men's jeans. To my surprise, I found that the exact same size that fit me at Old Navy also fit me at Target.
Also, for anyone who thought the pocket hype was over-played, let me tell you: having real pockets is amazing. I can fit my phone, my keys and my wallet in my pockets, and still have room for my hands.
I could pull a Napoleon Dynamite and put tater tots in there if I wanted to! It's everything I ever wanted and more. I can't wait to have more concerts to go to so I don't have to wait in an extra line to have my purse checked.

Side note: Stephan Jenkins gave me the t-shirt I'm wearing in that picture. No big deal.
The one thing I prefer with women's skinny jeans, is the tighter fit around my ankles so I can pull my socks over the pants and stick them out of my shoes a little. The ankle cut on men's jeans are a bit wider, but I've found that they look really cute if I cuff them a bit and show off the top of my shoes. If I wear them with flip flops, cuffing the jeans is a great way to show off my ankle bracelet, too!
A look, I know.
Even though the last few weeks have been the hottest yet of this summer, I still wore my jeans out. I rocked them with my favorite band t-shirts, nice shirts if I went out to dinner, and even wore them to work. Surprisingly, I began to prefer wearing these jeans to my job as opposed to leggings! No one noticed that they were mens jeans either. My mom was with me when I bought them, and even she didn't realize the difference.
Long story short, my idea to switch and purchase mens jeans was probably the best decision of the summer, and I'm so excited to wear my new favorite jeans all the time.
