Here’s what you should do before finishing your first year at Temple

Check these off your freshman year bucket list

Freshmen, this one is for you. Temple University will become your home away from home during your first year here. You'll soon be getting the "college experience" and learning how to handle this newfound freedom.

With that being said, college is also about learning the in's and out's of your school. Temple has its own unique atmosphere that makes us different than other universities.

Although, I'm just a sophomore who thinks she's wise enough to give you advice on how to spend your freshman year, listen to me when I say you should do all these things before the semester ends.

Here are a few things you should cross off your bucket list as a freshman at Temple University.

Go to a Temple Football tailgate and/or game

It is important to see what Temple is all about and going to football games is part of the experience! Have fun with your friends, enjoy the tailgate, and watch the game.

Go to a party on Gratz Street

Good ole Gratz Street, a fan favorite at Temple University. If you don't walk around Gratz trying to find a party at least once this year―are you even a freshman?

Take the Subway to the city and explore

At Temple, we are #blessed to have the city of Philadelphia so close to us. If you have never taken the subway, or do not know how to, now is the time to learn! Just make sure you are going the right way and do not end up far from your nest little Owls.

Pull an all-nighter at the Tech

An all-nighter? At the Tech? Since the Tech is 24 hours, has comfortable chairs, tons of computers, printers, and Starbucks―it is the perfect place to pull an all-nighter when studying, writing a paper, or doing whatever.

During finals week, the Tech just might be your new home.

Attend your first house party, which is so much better than the frats

Let's face it, once you've gone to a house party, you'll realize why it's so much better than the frats around campus.

Lose your Richie's virginity

The man, the myth, the legend: Richie. You need to try at least one thing from his amazing menu. My recommendation other than the great food? The iced coffee!

Spend a nice day sitting on Beury Beach

The weather has been so nice lately, which makes it the perfect time to sit with friends and relax at the beach! Have a picnic, read a book, or hang with friends.

Put sticky notes on your window

Whether you are writing a quote, putting up a Temple "T", or doing something else creative, almost all freshman put sticky notes in their window.

Go to a Philadelphia sports team's tailgate/game

All you have to do is hop on the subway and take it to AT&T Station! The Phillies offer a college night where a ticket and food is only $12!

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!

Eat from one of Temple’s many food trucks!

To be honest, when I was a freshman I was always skeptical about eating from the food trucks. Then my friend gave me a bite of his crêpe and my opinion changed forever.

You should try at least one food truck your freshman year!

Go to Narnia

Even if you do not think that this is necessarily your “scene,” just go anyway to see what it is like. You will probably hear tons of Temple students talk about Narnia, so it is worth it to see what it's like.

Try every pizza place after a night out

Which do you think is the best? Philly Style? Maxi’s? Pizano’s?

My personal favorite: Philly Style!

Go to a concert in the Philadelphia area

Artists travel from all over the world to come to Philadelphia and you can get to most concerts by taking the subway. Take advantage of the city!

Make your own version of "Fly in, Fly out" with your friends

At orientation, all the leaders make up their own rhymes so why not make your own with your friends too? My friends and I each sing it together frequently, which always gets the party started (it is also our group chat name).

Fly In Fly Out in the flesh!

Fly In Fly Out in the flesh!

Freshmen, if you listen to my suggestions, you just might have the best freshmen year. Temple University is an amazing place and you should take advantage of the incredible campus we have and the beautiful city we live in. Enjoy your freshmen year, but do not forget to hit the books! In order to return for year two, you need to pass! Good luck, have fun, and stay safe Owls!
