The best oyster happy hours: Broke student edition

While the Boot and Palms have their perks, nothing beats eating your way through New Orleans oysters.

Grab your friends and explore your favorite city with these amazingly cheap and delicious oyster happy hours.

Samuel’s Blind Pelican

Location: 1628 St Charles Ave, New Orleans, LA 70130

If you are a fan of chargrilled oysters, then the Blind Pelican is the place for you to be. Located on St. Charles, the Blind Pelican is not too far from campus and has a lively feel to it. Everyday from 4-8 PM you can get $3/raw dozen or $7.5/chargrilled dozen with each purchase of an alcoholic beverage.

Note: They don’t take reservations and the wait can be long. The casual ambiance is real nice though.

Superior Seafood & Oyster Bar

Location: 338 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70115

With a more diverse menu, Superior Seafood offers a daily happy hour from 4PM – 6:30PM and on Friday & Saturday’s from 10PM- Midnight.

If you are looking for more of a seafood based menu, Superior Seafood offers tons of options from BBQ Shrimp to oysters on the half shell. During happy hour, you will find raw oysters for $6 / dozen,  two for one Frozen mojitos, 1/2 off house wine bottles and $3 draft beer.

If you are feeling adventurous order the Oysters Superior to receive a sampler of the restaurant’s best dishes: chargrilled oysters, oysters Bienville (with shrimp stuffing, bacon and cheese) and angels on horseback (lightly fried oysters wrapped in bacon).

Things to note: They’ll take reservations and they’re on the pricier side but, it matches the fancy ambiance.

Cooter Brown’s Tavern & Oyster Bar

Location: 509 S. Carrollton Ave. New Orleans, LA

Accompanied by a historical theme, Cooter Brown’s is an awesome sports bar where you can expect to watch your favorite sports games on 20 large screens. Known for their extensive and unique beer menu, this tavern has 400 different beers to choose from and a casual feel to it that is fun to hang out and relax with friends.

Beginning of February 11th, Cooter’s will be offering Happy Hour specials Monday-Friday from 3-7 pm. Check out their $10 pitchers, and 1/2 price oysters.

Things to note: It’s more than just an oyster bar, it offers a variety of foods ranging from po boy’s to wings.

Acme Oyster House

Location: 724 Iberville St, New Orleans, LA 70130 (French Quarter)

For a better taste of New Orleans, check out Acme Oyster House. Located downtown in the French Quarter, not only can you find some of the best oysters but you will also find yourself surrounded by lively street acts, music and more.

Like Superior Seafood, Acme has a diverse menu. They offer oyster shooters: What could be better than a college student’s two favorite things in one?

Avid oyster lovers report coming back for the restaurant’s oyster Rockefeller soup and the Fried Peace Maker Po-Boy (Tabasco infused golden fried oysters & shrimp) which was voted #4 in Top Ten Sandwiches.

Things to note: Line to get in may be long and they don’t take reservations. Good spot for a casual happy hour.

Pascal’s Manale

 Location: 1838 Napoleon Ave New Orleans, LA 70115

With 100 years of experience, Pascal Manale’s has a classic New Orleans feel to it. Monday through Friday from 3-6 PM they offer half priced raw oysters, all bottled beer, and half priced cocktails.

Aside from their fabulous oysters, Pascal Manale’s is revered for creating the original BBQ shrimp (shrimp sautéed in Worcester butter sauce).
