The best study spots to get those midterm grades up
We need to get it together
Mardi Gras has come and gone and if you are like me, you have waited until the last minute to study for your midterms this week.
So, as you pull your planner out from under your various fanny packs and tutu’s and look at your upcoming exam schedule, do not freak out and take a nap instead. As an avid procrastinator/lazy freshman, I have compiled a list of study spots both on and off campus that are sure to help you get A’s on all your tests.
Howie T library 5th and 6th floors

Howie T has undergone some serious renovations as most of us know. From afar, the newest additions to the library may look like an incredibly sleek spacecraft has landed on the first four floors.
However, once inside, the 5th and 6th floor renovations provide a spacious and bright feel with their floor to ceiling windows and views of downtown. These new additions, with their various study spots, are sure to make even the least studious person motivated to crack open their dusty textbook.
Mojo Coffee House on Freret
There are two things that get me motivated to do my work: Caffeine and seeing other people do work, thus inspiring me to also do my work so I won’t appear lazy. Mojo is about a 20 minute walk down Freret and is the perfect destination to get off campus if you are experiencing a bit of campus fever, but are also in dire need of writing that 10 page paper due tomorrow.
Tip: Try the iced yerba mate tea with lime. Perfect amount of caffeine without the crash of coffee.
Starbucks at Loyola
Yes, I know. So basic. But let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good double chocolate chip frappucino every once in awhile.
The Starbucks at Loyola is a great place to get away from campus without going too far. There are some great booths to spread out and get your studying done. And let’s not forget, if you are having a bad hair day or that pimple just won’t go away, Loyola is a great place to go to and study if you’re worried about seeing your crush at PJ’s once again.
Rue De La Course
This beautiful cafe is right off of South Carrollton and Oak street, making it about a 25 minute walk from campus, depending how hungover you are from happy hour. As you walk into the cafe, you may feel as if you’ve somehow time traveled to Europe in the 1920’s. The high ceilings, classical music playing, and second floor loft are all just perks next to the great coffee and pastries served.
Cafe Luna
Although this coffee shop may be a bit farther from the rest, it is definitely worth the trek. Located right off of Magazine Street, near Whole Foods, Cafe Luna is a quaint coffee shop serving a delicious lox bagel with a side of some dry sense of humor straight from the hipster baristas. Don’t be frightened by the plant in the bathroom sink, it gives the place character.
Hope this list of study spots can help you out during the painful and stressful time that is Midterm Week. Just remember, keep the coffee coming.
