Things that happen when you reunite with your high school friends

It’s so different but somehow the still the same

Now that you all are attending different colleges around the country it can be hard to meet up with your high school best friends.

So, when your breaks finally sync up, it is the perfect opportunity to catch up. These are the things that happen when you all get together:

The people you used to know suddenly become important again

You revert to talking about people from your high school when you can’t think of anything else.

Is it repetitive? Sure.  Is it shallow? Most definitely.

But even though you all pretend that these conversations are above you, they are always the most entertaining.

You try to describe that one hilarious person on your floor but you realize they have to meet them in person to get their humor.

Stories about your University friends fall on deaf ears

About halfway through these descriptions you almost always say: “Nevermind, you just have to meet them to get it.”

Stories that should be short take a while to explain because you have to give so much background information.

Private jokes reign supreme

“Who is that again?” “Wait, I thought that was your friend from bio?” “I’m confused” MAKE IT STOP!!!!

You discover that none of your inside jokes have gotten old. Even though it’s been months (or years)

Remember that joke from five years ago?

It is so satisfying to reference those obscure jokes after accidentally making them in front of your college friends who just gave you blank looks.

Despite planning out lots of activities you still end up just looking through Buzzfeed and Youtube together like old times.

You become the most immature version of yourself

You still don’t understand why watching “don’t laugh challenge” YouTube videos together is so much fun.

Even if you feel like a mature college student, you revert to middle schoolers around each other.

Your social media game goes from 0 to 10

Your camera roll is quickly filled with embarrassing selfies, snapchats, and videos.

The designated driver never changes

That one person who got their license first still somehow does most of the driving (sorry Isabel!)

You swear you’ll try to drive more often but when it gets complicated you make the most experienced driver take the wheel.

Old habits die hard

It’s discovered that shopping and (over)eating still play central roles in your friendship

Dominoes night is just as amazing as it was junior year of high school. It’s amazing you can have so much respect for each other after finishing a whole lava cake together.

Despite moving miles away from each other things are still pretty much the same, and that’s pretty awesome.
