Black cat? Superhero? A Kardashian? What are you going to be for Halloween?
Halloweekend….arguably the best part about college
Put down your pumpkin spice lattes and throw on that costume you’ve been planning all year for…..IT’S HALLOWEEKEND PEOPLE.
This age old tradition of dressing up may have seemed lame in our awkward middle school years, but has now become one of the most important, crucially, inevitably celebrated holidays on the UConn campus.
This one day event has turned into a weeklong affair of pure fun! But the number one question that can’t go unanswered…..what are YOU going to be for Halloween?
Kyle Connelly and Taylor Tarka, a creative dynamic duo, came up with a Halloween costume that was just as punny as it was amazingly original.
Based off of the popular Jay-Z song, 99 Problems, this ingenious couple “rapped” these lyrics into a one of a kind costume. With Connelly’s shirt reading, “Problems 99” and Tarka’s pairing “ain’t 1” this lyric inspired costume was complete!
Taylor said: “I didn’t want to have a stereotypical costume. I wanted something comfy, easy, and original. I found similar ideas online and connected it with one of my favorite artists, Jay-Z.”
Among our wonderfully unique student population, a couple UConn students add their artistic flare to the spooky world of Halloween. UConn nursing student Anne Michaud and friend Eileen Cannon add to the spooks and scares that come with the Halloween season.
With the stroke of a brush and a steady hand Anne transforms herself into a hauntingly beautiful creature of the night. Her eloquent face makeup is not only unique, but is without a doubt one of the most intriguing transformations from typical student, to Halloween spook.
This week long affair has students living it up night after night, leaving some people with no choice but to have more than one costume to party it out this Halloweekend. Uconn senior Rebecca Mondo is no exception.
“If you’re going out more than one night for Halloween, it’s fun to have more than one costume!”
Dressing up with her partner in crime Tracy Valcin, a former UConn student, the pair transformed themselves into batman and the joker for a thrilling night of Halloween spirit.
“The costumes were comfy and easy, and we wanted to go have our costumes tie in together, so batman and the joker seemed like the perfect plan for us.”
The creativity kept flowing as Rebecca headed out for a second night of spooks and scares, with a group of not so correlating friends.
Rebecca, dressed as Kylie Kardashian, headed out with UConn senior and psychology major Kriste Lazauska, and Eastern student Brian Roberson. Lazauska, dressed as Snow White, and Brian, dressed as Santa. Rebecca said: “Halloween is the one time a year where we can all dress up, and have fun and be creative with our costumes”.
One things for certain, creativity and uniqueness are what UConn students will bring to the Halloween costume world this weekend!
