Would you date a girl who’s smarter than you?
Hypermasculinity may be real, but I couldn’t find it
Men can’t handle dating women who are smarter than them, according to a study released last month.
Could you? We had no idea what to expect for responses but imagined there would surely be some dispute.
One glance at a Buy or Sell fight and you it’s clear us Huskies like a good ol’ fashion debate (screaming match).
So we asked UConn men if they’d date a smart woman.
Nick and Piotr, freshmen, Engineering majors
Piotr (on left)and Nick. Y’all are the real MVPs
Both genuinely responded to my question with a definitive “yes”.
Nick said: “A lot of people would consider [an intelligent female] to be intimidating, but I don’t see the threat in it.
“Strength and intelligence are perceived by some to be masculine, which is incorrect, because intelligence has made us human.”
My search for the male chauvinists of UConn then took me to the Student Union, which was all but dead on this ordinary night.
Frat bros Nikhil, Sean, Brett and Nick seemingly had no problem with the idea of their significant other possessing greater mental ability. Unfortunately, they also declined to take a group pic, claiming “squad confidentiality.”
My next targets were junior engineers Josh, Paul, and Jesse — they agreed wholly.
Josh, Paul and Jesse straight chillin’
My last stop in this journey led me home. One of the major benefits (or drawbacks) of living in Hilltop is sharing living space with athletes.
In my experience, they can be rather “unpredictable” at times in the things they say or do. With that in mind, I decided to ask some of the football players my burning question.
Bryan, a freshman offensive lineman swiftly answered “Yes” and, after a short pause, said: “She can do my homework!”
Priorities, indeed.

Bryan also generously offered to ask teammates via group chat. Below is a screenshot of the results.
I hope someone helped James
Bam! Concrete evidence that intelligence is not a turnoff and/or we’re in the 21st Century. Although Connor did give a specific qualification, his answer is still valid. Even football players are just like us.
I set out to find the most 1950s-esque hyper masculine dudes on campus and came up short. I was unable to find a single soul on campus who wouldn’t date a smarter woman.
Chalk this up as a win for UConn. We’re modern.
As Ice Cube would say, It Was A Good Day.
