How to avoid UConn Secure like the plague

Anything that can go wrong to the wifi, will go wrong

Every UConn Husky knows that the campus wifi goes down on you more often than any significant other ever will.

You might just be trying to binge watch Gossip Girl like me, or submit an online assignment at the last minute. Either way it’s important to have a backup when it comes to wifi here because UConn Secure will go down, and it will usually be at the most inconvenient time possible for everyone.

Starbucks

Starbucks is a pretty good place to go when campus wi-fi is down. Not only are you surrounded by the smell of coffee, but the internet is actually really fast since it is powered by Google.

The only downside to Starbucks is their parking lot only lets you stay for an hour at most. So if you’re really binge-watching you have to park in a different lot and walk over. No one wants to do that.

PriceChopper

For people who can be surrounded by food and not eat it, PriceChopper is a great place. They have a separate area you can go to get work done and it’s above the main floor so you also get to do some really fun people watching. There is also a Starbucks in the actual grocery store so it’s kind of a one up on the OG Starbucks.

Hillel

With free coffee, tea, and snacks Hillel seems like the perfect place to go if you have to get a last minute assignment done. They also have a TV, pool table, and ping pong table if you need a little study break or need another excuse to procrastinate.

While it is directly on campus, it has its own separate wifi and a few parking spaces that are not controlled by the devil spawn that work at Parking Services. During finals, however, Hillel’s wifi signal is significantly weakened with all the people doing their last minute cramming sessions of trying to learn the entire course in one night.

Gr8est Space Apartments

If you’re thinking about moving off campus to avoid dealing with UConn Secure, Gr8est Space REALLY wants you to know that they have free wi-fi in all of their locations. Don’t let them fool you into thinking this will save you time and money. You will end up having to buy your own router and internet service anyway.

Conclusion

Due to the fact that UConn Secure is free and essentially everywhere on campus, you might just want to stick it out like the rest of the student population and wait until the internet comes back online. Walking or even driving somewhere is too much effort and you probably need a break from Netflix anyway.
