Hingham MA: The only hometown that makes leaving this hard
But we’ll always rep it
It’s easy to rant and rave about the town you come from and how much it means to you, but spend a few hours in the town of Hingham in Massachusetts and I promise you’ll never want to leave. You’ll always have a beautiful view, delicious food, and a place to call home.
We’ve got views for days
Hingham’s surrounding towns and close proximity to Boston contribute to its beautiful scenery. Whether its the oceanic views from the nearby beaches or the bright skyline of the city, there is always something to look at.
Hingham is considered a waterfront town, but there is only one public beach, and it’s rather small. Most of the waterfront property is used for marinas, yacht clubs, private beaches, and docks. But the surrounding towns, such as Scituate, Hull, and Cohasset have popular beaches that are only a 10-20 minute drive. The Scituate beaches are my personal favorite.
Scituate is considered both a residential and vacation town in the summer, mainly because of the attraction it draws to the beaches. Kyle Chandler, or better known as Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights, made an appearance at Peggotty Beach this August. Friday Night Light fans from all over the South Shore flocked to Scituate for a picture or an autograph.
Another popular spot is about a 10 minute drive from Hingham is Sandy Beach in Cohasset. One of the best parts about driving here is the road you have to take. Jerusalem Road is one of the most beautiful roads in the entire country. The million dollar mansions line the windy road before bringing you to Sandy. Every time I drive down it, I feel like I’m in a dream because of how luxurious the houses are.
Pictured is a typical Saturday afternoon in Hingham Harbor where college students enjoy each other’s company and a weekend off from work.
A more interesting side to Hingham is the amount of history that is tied into the community dating all the way back to the seventeenth century. Right in the center of town you can find Old Ship Church, which is the last Puritan meeting house standing. The best part is that it is still currently used as a Unitarian church!
Downtown Hingham is home to many other historical buildings such as an army base that is rumored to have held the nuclear bombs for World War II. The physical and historical beauty of Hingham is one of its most redeeming elements.
Our food is just better than yours
For all the foodies out there, Hingham is home to a variety of restaurants ranging from breakfast diners to burgers and fries to gourmet dinners.
One of the most popular breakfast spots is located right across from the Hingham Public Beach called ‘Stars’. In the morning, it’s a great place for families and high school students to get together for breakfast. At night, it’s a common bar for college students to flock to because its cheap and convenient.
If you’re in the mood for a burger, Wahlburgers is located at the Hingham Shipyard. It is owned by the Walhlburgs, yes Marky Mark, and is one of the biggest attractions to the Shipyard. This area is riddled with super expensive gourmet restaurants, so having a quick yet delicious option is perfect for families and teenagers. Wahlburgers at the Hingham shipyard is the first restaurant of the chain to open. There is now one next to Fenway in Boston, and the Wahlburgs hope to continue expanding.
From the front of Wahlburgers, you have a sunset view of the boats in Hingham Harbor.
Community
While the scenery and food are to die for, nothing beats the close bonds that everyone in the community shares with one another. There’s only one middle and high school, so your best friends end up being your forever friends.
Students from ninth-twelfth grade rally together at TD Garden to cheer on the Hingham Boy’s Hockey Team in the finals.
The community has the ability to rally in joyous times such as celebrating the Girl’s Soccer team winning the State Championship, but also come together in times of sorrow and grief when a dear friend passes away.
Growing up in such an amazing place with good-hearted people makes leaving Hingham so hard.
