UM senior bucket list
Do ’em all, it’s your last chance
Eat Misha’s Cupcakes
Nothing cures the sweet tooth like some cream filled cupcakes. Misha’s cupcakes are the best in town and local to only Miami, Florida. The best time to go is in the weekend when they have special flavored cupcakes like Nutella and S’mores along with regular classics Red Velvet and Chocolate Ganaches. The cupcakes are delicious, an absolute local delight, and if the stress of the finals get to you, Misha’s cupcakes can always bring a smile back to your face.
Rock in the hammocks
A tradition started by former President Donna Shalala, the hammocks continue to appear under the reign of current President Julio Frenk. The orange and green hammocks make their delightful return during finals week. You can shut your eyes and get a power nap or keep them open and read while you swing. Swinging along with the breeze is a unique amenity offered to UM students so make sure to take full advantage of it before leaving the beautiful campus.
Grab the baseball game milkshakes
It’s no secret that the milkshakes sold at the Mark Light Stadium are every foodie’s gem. The creamy, chilled beverage makes you forget about going to the gym and keeps seducing you for the next sip. Simply put, they are enticing and worth making a trip to the UM’s baseball games. If you’re a fan, then you get the double delight watching the game and sipping away the creamy goodness.
Go to The Rat’s happy hour
A staple of the UM experience, Senior year would be incomplete without one final visit to The Rat. Text your friends, grab your professor (the fun ones), and meet up at The Rat for one final rendezvous. The bar and restaurant is on campus, walking distance from class, and offers happy hour. Time to splurge, chill, and drink up on the classic orange gliders. You never know when a lake, some palm trees, and great friends will be around again after graduation. So visit The Rat and order one more pitcher because, why not?
Bike in South Beach
The Miami experience is incomplete without a visit to South Beach. Sitting under the sun is great, but biking between Ocean Drive and the South Beach waters is an exhilarating experience. Grab a bike from any one of the many locations where Citi Bikes are parked. Swipe your card and the bike is your for an hour or however long you choose. Let your hair down and let the breeze flow through you as speed past palm trees, fancy hotels, and South beach lights. Citi Bikes are available in many cities in the world, but none make it as enjoyable as the ones at Miami Beach.
Take a picture at The U
The “U” symbol is the most iconic structure on campus, and a picture on the “U” cements your time at UM. It will be the picture you look at time and time again, wistfully, after commencement. Nothing is more iconic than standing between those orange and green colors and throwing up the “U” with your hands. Everyone else has it. Make sure you do too.
