The best of Bid Day 2016

Taking care of bid-ness

For many Tar Heels, few times this semester will be as monumental as 6:00 p.m. on September 7. This was when UNC’s newest sorority members accepted their bids to join their sororities.

On Wednesday, McCorkle Place flooded with the hundreds of new recruits. There were chants, cheers, and screams of excitement.

Sorority members ran to hug their fellow recruits when they saw they had received bids also.

The excitement was infectious. Cheers and laughter were heard across campus.

Holding their letters high, some girls raced to the edge of Cameron Avenue and waved at passing cars

Some held signs with names, while others held neon balloons.

Once they got their matching t-shirts, people happily changed into them.

Girls rushed to the front of the Old Well to face South Building

Sororities lined Cameron Avenue, and traffic paused to watch as they celebrated their bids.

Tri-Sig held their banner up for passing traffic

Some girls even went into the street, but others soon directed them back to the sidewalk. That didn’t stop anyone from continuing to celebrate.

A few Tri-Delta members threw up their letters in front of (very slowly) oncoming traffic before returning to the sidewalk

There was one happy puppy to witness the action.

Elizabeth Eason of ZTA got to hang out with her furry friend Emmie

In addition to the neon balloons, there were also letter-shaped balloons.

It was an especially great day to be a Tar Heel. Congratulations to everyone who received a bid!

The sun set beautifully on a thrilling day
