Silicon Valley hires more students from USC than from the Ivy Leagues
(or UCLA. FUCLA.)
Great news, Trojans: USC students are officially more desired by Silicon Valley tech companies than Ivy Leaguers, according to a new study.
The data reveals USC to have placed fourth out of the top 10 alma maters hired by Silicon Valley’s top 25 companies this past year.
UC Berkeley ranked #1, followed by Stanford and Carnegie Mellon. None of the Ivies even made the list (and neither did UCLA).
The research was conducted by HiringSolved, who looked to create a portrait of the ideal 2017 tech employees by narrowing down a list of the industry’s most in-demand skills.
They determined proficiency in Python, Java and Cloud to be the top three skills Silicon Valley tech companies look for in new hires.
Furthermore, HiringSolved co-founder and CEO Shon Burton stated that on top of knowing the basics of technology, “Having a deeper, more well-rounded comprehension makes a great engineer because they’re thinking creatively and when the technique fails, they have the ability to fix the issue. This is the key to a desirable Silicon Valley job candidate.”
So brush up on Python and embrace creativity, you future tech moguls out there. With those skills and USC on your diploma, you’ve definitely got a leg up on the East Coast (and West LA) competition.
