The best campus food you probably don’t know about

We’re not just number one for Qdoba

It’s a known fact that Virginia Tech has the number one ranked college food in the country, but if you’re like me, you feel like you’re eating the same thing all the time. Well, here’s your solution: the top eight Virginia Tech foods you may not know exist.

Panini – Deet’s Place

Deet’s is much more than just the coffee shop/ice cream parlor of your dreams. It’s also the lunch destination of your dreams. Try the chipotle chicken panini or the basil pesto panini next time you’re craving a sandwich that goes above and beyond. Both are amazing, made to order and come with chips, cole slaw and a pickle. I highly recommend getting an iced caramel macchiato to go with it.  Bonus: you don’t have to bring the green to-go box or pay for a compostable one here!

Corn Dog Nuggets – DX

Ah, the high school cafeteria food we never thought we’d miss. Get the corn dog nuggets and other high school favorites at DX for a late night study snack. Reminisce on the good old days of not having to study for tests while munching on the goodness that is DX fast food. Then you can go back to crying into your textbook.

Eggs Benedict – D2

D2 is really only good for Sunday brunch, we all know that. But don’t rush for the french toast and make-it-yourself waffles too fast! At Pan Asia, right next to where you swipe in, you can find eggs benedict, served with asparagus and strawberries. Be careful though, it rotates out every other week! At $3.80 Flex price, you can’t beat unlimited Eggs Benedict. Don’t forget the Virginia Tech chocolate milk to go with it!

Death by Chocolate – Turner Place

Are you having a chocolate craving that a Deet’s milkshake just won’t satisfy?  The answer lies in Death by Chocolate. It’s a chocolate layer cake that will make you gain five pounds just by looking at it. But it’s worth it, oh so worth it. Find it in the grab-n-go section of Turner, near the gelato fridge.

Cannoli – West End

Want fancy Italian dessert without paying the fancy price? Head on over to West End for authentic cannolis! They can be found at Bistro Firenze (the pasta place) in West End, in the left line. If you don’t know what it is, just buy one (or two) and trust me, you’ll be in love.

Creme Brûlée – West End

West End seriously has you covered in the dessert department. Head over to where the cookies and milkshakes are to find creme brûlée! It’s caramelized fresh and comes in three flavors: vanilla, chocolate and raspberry.

Tomato Soup in a Bread Bowl – West End

Is it raining outside and you want to feel cozy? Are you missing mom’s homemade soups? Look no further than Leaf & Ladle at West End. Comfort food in soup form is in endless supply here! Vegetable soup is a daily option, if that’s more your speed, but I discovered tomato soup last year and haven’t gotten it at ABP since. It’s that good. Fair warning: the tomato soup does rotate with others. Get it in a bread bowl for extra calories… I mean, comfort.

Chicken Parm Sandwich – Owens

Finally, my personal favorite. I always seem to crave chicken parm when it isn’t chicken parm day. First world problems, right? Not to worry though. Head over to Flips for the chicken parmesan sandwich. It’s huge, on fancy bread, and you can put toppings on it (not sure why you’d want lettuce and tomato on chicken parm, but you do you). It doesn’t come with pasta, but it does come with homemade chips and a pickle. Pretty good substitute for the real deal, if you ask me.
