The epidemic of Spring Fever has arrived at Wake
What’s your ideal spring day?
The trees have returned to their emerald lush state and it is no longer a dread to walk from Benson to North Campus. We can finally depart from the drab colorless winter wardrobe and brighten our closets with lively light weight apparel.
Not only do the spring months indicate a final stretch regarding our workloads but a renewal of excitement with campus events, outdoor pursuits, and being able to comfortably sit outside without our cheeks being stung by the icy gusts.
With that being said, there has been a significant increase in students spending as much time outdoors as possible. The hibernation of the winter months contrasting to spring’s bloom rejuvenates the spirits on Wake students in their second semester endeavors.
The courtyard behind the ZSR that is sandwiched between Benson and Tribble, the “kill zone” attracts students who are majoring in HES to students studying biology. This seemingly urban center of campus provides the opportunity for students to relax or study and is constantly buzzing with energy during the spring months.
While sitting at a table in the kill zone, squinting at the dark screen of my ThinkPad, I decided to ask passerby’s answer to the question “what is your ideal spring day?” These are the following responses from 12 Wake students of different ages and focuses of study.
Jared Hutchins, Freshman, Bio Major, Pre-Med
“Definitely getting lunch outside and having drinks on the patio. Just being outside as much as possible and getting some sun. Maybe playing Frisbee on the quad, never done that before but could give it a try.”
Marianna Lovo, Sophomore, Communications Major
“Laying outside Mag or on a blanket in the quad and doing homework on the patch of green grass and taking a stroll through Reynolda…how about walking a dog or something? I love animals.”

“A lot like today by being able to sit outside comfortably and not be sweaty and see the flowers and trees blooming.”
