Why Badgers are the best

They are the people I would pick to fill my photo album every single time

No judgment. We all eavesdrop. Being in huge groups of people can effectively make you realize how many cultures, stories, and experiences are on campus. While we’re surrounded by all these unique people, we are all Badgers. We all can come together under one name and identification. The best thing about UW aren’t the Badger games or binge drinking, but the Badgers themselves.

Don’t get me wrong. Jump Around has given me weirdly fulfilling motion sickness during the games just like everyone else. The memories will live on with us forever but they wouldn’t be possible without people to drape our arms over in pictures.

We’re all here to walk the stage

We all came here to eventually come to terms with the fact we’re gonna be working adults someday. We’ll have bills and debts we’re responsible for and a degree from UW will help us get there. I mean, you spent all the money, might as well have someone screaming your name when you grab the diploma.

Badgers are the best people to calm you down before a big test

UW lends itself to making friends in the library as we study through dinner and breakfast the next morning. We’ve had communal cries over Chem Labs with the people who might come to our weddings someday. We bond over our complaints of lectures, discussions, and exams.

We make bonds with people who will eventually be as close as brothers or sisters

Those of us lucky enough to have siblings know how monumental they can be in our life. UW has given students the ability to have hundreds of new “siblings” from all different backgrounds and walks of life. These Badgers are helpful while networking for the big adult job, but they’re just as good for life talks and shoulder cries.

Badgers are from all different backgrounds

UW has given me the opportunity to meet people from all around the globe they have helped me become a better person just by introducing themselves. You never truly realize the kind of impact someone has on you.

People will watch your backpacks in coffee shops

That might not seem like a big deal but think about all of the important things in your backpack. Homework, computer, chargers, phone, planner, and so much more. Subconsciously, we’ve decided most Badgers are trustworthy enough to ask to watch your bag full of life while you go grab a refill. That’s huge.

Jump Around wouldn’t be fun with just one person

Like I said before, part of the fun is feeling like you’re going to make Camp Randall crumble to the ground. When we are united under one snippet of one song, it’s breathtaking. It speaks for itself why Badgers are so awesome.

We’re motivated as fuck

Besides having the title of Badgers, students at this school are unbelievably motivated. While some of us party more than we’d like to admit, others really don’t participate. Hungover, tired, or sick, we all drag our sorry butts out of bed for an 8am lecture we knew was not a good idea. That’s dedication and it makes us some pretty cool people.

We find lasting friendships in organizations, internships, and classrooms. I’ll tell my kids about the successful basketball team. Maybe, with a lot of luck, they’ll reach the age where they get to hear the stories of college nights where me and my friends drank way too much. A tangible degree will finally be in my possession, proving what it was all for and urging them to reach for the stars too.

Most importantly though, it’s given me people to fill all the pictures of my photo albums with.
