UW-Madison has been named the most beautiful college in Wisconsin
With places like Memorial Union, Bascom Hill, and State Street, it’s pretty obvious why
According to Travel and Leisure, UW-Madison’s campus takes the cake for most beautiful campus in the state. Wisconsin becomes a winter wonderland for a majority of the year, but the constant precipitation makes for some amazing spring and summer months.
Natural beauty
Madison is nestled between two beautiful lakes, Mendota and Menona, and places like Memorial Union help you enjoy the natural scenery. Though a common place for tourists, Memorial Union is a great location to grab a bite to eat, study for a test or take some beautiful pictures.

Iconic buildings
Classes are held in historic buildings with amazing architecture, like Science Hall. Millions of dollars have been poured into new buildings and programs, making this campus beautiful inside and out. The mix of the old and the new give this campus character, and the constant renovations keep research and student satisfaction at an all-time high.

Iconic areas like Bascom Hill, the Lakeshore paths and Camp Randall are constant reminders of how beautiful Madison nature is. Locations like these provide moments to just ‘take it all in’ within the busy campus and even busier city. Students take naps on the hill just to take in the scenery.

State Street
Bascom Hall leads right into State Street, a favorite for locals and tourists alike. The street is lined with quaint shops, restaurants and new developments popping up at all times. Ian’s Pizza, a popular pizza joint on the street, captures the college-town vibe perfectly. There are also two theaters: The Orpheum and The Overture. The Orpheum is a venue for small bands and events, and The Overture is a fancier venue hosts traveling Broadway shows.
The Capital
The top of the street is the magnificent capital building where state representatives work each and every day. The columns and stairways surrounding the capital are also lined with decorative flowers. These are perfect photo opportunities, and even more beautiful during the farmer’s market days. Many students are given internships and employment opportunities inside this government building each year. The interior is beautiful, and you can see this beautiful building from Bascom Hill.

Badgers tend to think the campus is only beautiful when the sun is shining or no homework is assigned, but that’s just not true. We’re surrounded by beauty each and every day. The smallest things often go unnoticed, but they all make UW-Madison the most beautiful campus in Wisconsin.
