Freshman Veena McCoole’s Instagram launched her into Singapore fashion fame

She gets free clothes and accessories from running her blog

Veena McCoole, Morse College, 2019

Veena not only takes pretty photos, but her fashion has her looking quite pretty herself. Her incredible fashion blog Seven Inch Stilettos launched her into the Singapore fashion scene, where she is a member of the press at many fashion openings, shows and events.

She is often paid or given complimentary clothing for her work, and she has a wicked fashion sense. Check her Insta for photos of cool spaces, awesome outfits and amazing travels.

Cluttered, indecisive and impulsive.

What are your inspirations?

I love @kristina_bazan‘s photos because she’s sophisticated af and features such professional photography. @viewsofnow is a fun one to have on your feed too – she has a killer aesthetic and she’s hilarious.

What other photo-editing apps do you use?

I always always use VSCOcam, and sometimes Snapseed for selective brightening/FaceTune for touch-ups.

What’s your favorite thing about Instagram? What additional things do you wish you could do on it?

I love how easy and fun it is to share snippets of your life with those around you and simultaneously keep up with people you care about in an instantaneous and visual way.

What photos do you see get the most likes?

In terms of my own photos, often they are the ones where my life is portrayed most “authentically.” Like, not modeling photos or super posed ones, but pictures in which I’m stressing for exams, eating really damn good food or laughing obnoxiously with my friends. I think people value honesty on social media more than anything.

What other advice would you give to aspiring Instagrammers?

This is kind of stolen from someone else, but when I heard it I couldn’t forget it: when you post on Instagram, don’t think about the individual picture you’re uploading, but think of it in the context of your feed.

This is something I suck at because my feed is really incoherent, and this only really applies to people who care about maintaining their feed. So basically, if you’re at all fussed about your “aesthetic,” looking at the big picture is apparently the way to do it. But have fun and don’t take Instagram too seriously.
