Friend first, boss second: Unemployed grad channels Brent for job

Be careful because there is always someone ready to step into your shoes and do your job better than you do it

He doesn’t live by “The Rules” you know – a jobless grad has uploaded a video of himself as chilled-out entertainer David Brent in the hope of finding work.

Will Bower left Sussex with a 2.1 in Business and Management and clearly is not intimidated when talking to large numbers of people in an entertaining way.

The 21-year-old of Crawley is looking for a decent job of work and to make a difference.

In the video he asks: “Why am I not employed? Good question. People say, “Oh, Will, Will, you’re so successful already, aren’t you?” Well, yeah, cheers.

“‘Will, you’ve been on BBC radio recently to talk about your videos, right?’ Yeah, I have.

“‘Will, you passed your driving theory test first time, right?’ Yeah.

“The truth is, I’ve been waiting. Playing it hard to get, as they say.”

Will applied for marketing roles in London but failed to land a job.

So instead he made a video telling would-be employers: “Work is a way of life for me – it’s a religion. Christians, they pilgrimage to Lourdes, Muslims to Mecca.

“But me? To your desk. To my desk, in your building.”

Speaking about his decision to channel the Brentmeister General, Will said: “I find it difficult to brag about myself and big myself up, so I thought I would do it as David Brent.”

Having played hard to get with employers, Will is now waiting on companies to come to him with offers of work.

Ricky Gervais has also spotted Will’s video.

People see him, and they see the suit, and they go: “you’re not fooling anyone,” they know he’s rock and roll through and through.
