Jack CummingsFootball clubs should be doing more to help away fans – which is what the top 20 clubs in the country unanimously agreed today, when they decided to cap the ticket price for away games at £30.
The Premier League said away fans are “essential to match atmosphere” in a statement released this afternoon. The upper ticket price limit is being brought in next season.
Bigger clubs like Chelsea – who charge £52 for their cheapest match day ticket – will have to drop their prices to meet the new rules. A BBC Price of Football study from last year found that eight clubs including Leicester and Stoke already sell away tickets for less than £30.
Liverpool fans have challenged the club over recent plans to introduce £77 tickets, but at least this is good news for supporters travelling away.
