Meet Love Island’s Charlie Brake: Chelsea boy and heir to £2 billion fortune

Ellie’s favourite Sloane Ranger, revealed

Love Island new boy Charlie Brake looks like he could be one of the twelve new Islanders who will escape being booted off the show as the brutal villa/Casa Amor re-coupling looms large.

The 22-year-old socialite looks to be on the cusp of a blossoming romance with Ellie, who narrowly escaped the clutches of both Dr Alex and Eyal. But who is Charlie? How rich is he actually?

Well, we've done some digging and if you asked him to lend you a tenner we think he'd be able to manage just fine if you never paid him back. Here's everything you need to know about Love Island new boy Charlie Brake.

He's 22 and from London

The 22-year-old self-described socialite is from London and lives in Chelsea, shock.

He's very, very rich

Charlie is the heir to a massive £2 billion fortune, as his father used to own the food wholesaler Brakes, based in Ashford in Kent, until he sold it to Syco for $3.6 billion in 2016.

Charlie admits he doesn't need to work for the family business at all, saying: "I don’t really have to work so I tend to do what I want, when I want.” This seems to often involve looking as if he's starring in a Scandi-noir series about the mafia.

He's literally always on holiday

A quick peruse through Charlie's Insta shows the life of someone on a permanent vacation. He really knows how to travel – complete with wave emoji captions and a frankly disappointing money-spent-to-likes-gained ratio.

He went to public school, obviously

Before embarking into the cut-throat world of massively overusing Instagram filters – Charlie was educated at £12,870 a year boarding school Millfield in Somerset.

At Millfield he was in the King Weston boarding house, which is also the correct answer to the question: "Which bastion of structural privilege most sounds like an early noughties Atlanta rapper?"

He ran the London Marathon in 2018

Charlie ran the 2018 London Marathon in support of Parkinson's UK.

26.2 miles and a whole lot of training would have surely helped him get in shape ready for the villa.

He's a big Arsenal fan

When he inherits his dad's £2 billion fortune he could actually buy Arsenal Football Club. Estimated to be worth £1.29 billion, he would have some change leftover.

He's yet another Islander who's into Muay Thai boxing

Just like Wes and Kazimir, Charlie lists Muay Thai boxing as one of his hobbies.

Charlie's ideal type is someone that enjoys the high life

Charlie is a man with money to burn and wants someone to help him do it. Although saying he has only had two long term relationships before, he is now looking for something more serious.

When he entered the villa, he described himself as a "socialite from Chelsea" who wanted to share "experiences like jet-skiing" with the girls he would meet inside – he admits he has taken girls on skiing mini-breaks on just their second date.

Any girl that wants to get with Charlie better get on board with the glamorous lifestyle and a man who spends his entire time traipsing round St Tropez, Monaco and St Moritz, posting photos with the sort of captions that could lead to full-blown class warfare.

Whatever you think about him, he looks like he'll be sticking around the villa for a while

With his relationship with Ellie blossoming, we may well be seeing much more of Charlie on our screens – he seems poised to be one of the select few new boys that will survive the brutal Casa Amor phase of Love Island.

However, things change fast in the villa, and with the World Cup final on the 15th July and the Love Island finale rumoured to be on the 30th – it remains to be seen whether football, or Charlie, will be coming home first.
