This is what the Love Islanders do on their secret day off
I thought they just lay still like the toys in Toy Story?!?
Our generation has been hurt twice. First by Vernon Dursley, who said: "No post on Sundays." But worse in many ways was when the ITV producers sat around and proclaimed: "No Love Island on Saturdays".
At around seven months, babies develop a grasp what's known as "object permanence" – the understanding that things exist even when we can't see them. Yet even for adults, it's hard to imagine that the Islanders exist when they're off our screens on Saturdays, let alone actually do anything.
Luckily, Kem has spilled the beans on This Morning and revealed exactly what the cast get up to on their day off.
Here's what happens:
The producers clean the villa while the cast roam free
Hopefully they wash the sheets in the Hideaway and try to sort out Tommy's omelette pan.
The Islanders usually go to the beach
Saturday's a time to relax and not be so intense. Where better than the beach?
"Normally we go to the beach and just chill out," Kem told Holly and Phil. "Not a lot of people know that."
They can talk about whatever they want
With their mics off, the Islanders can talk about their home lives.
Chris Williamson, from the first season, revealed: “Once a week we were allowed to leave the villa and weren’t filmed so none of the viewers would ever know." Sounds freeing.
But the producers are watching them to make sure they don't talk about anything dramatic
It would be a complete disaster if a new coupling happened out of earshot, or if someone laid it on thick without a camera there to capture every second. For this reason, chaperones shadow the Islanders on their day off.
Cara from season two said: "You are not allowed to have sneaky conversations. That’s why the chaperones are there to watch you. If someone was to have a dramatic argument then you can't go back and recreate it."
It's a chance to get a haircut and a manicure
Looking like a Boohoo-clad Barbie/Ken doll is a constant requirement for any Islander. So it's not even worth contemplating what would happen if they went eight weeks without a trim.
Cara from season two told Hello! Magazine: “After a couple of weeks in, we had someone to come in and do our nails. The boys all got their hair cut because by then Nathan looked like Shaggy from Scooby Doo. They give you little treats. They had a massage the day before the final, too.”
Sometimes they go to McDonald's or even into civilisation
Usually the Islanders are kept in complete isolation from the outside world. But sometimes that changes.
Last year, a McDonald's cup was spotted after a day off.
And one Saturday in 2017, Gabby, Amber, Montana and co. were spotted in Palma, Mallorca's capital, on their way to get their nails done.
Freedom to leave the villa can be taken away
Sometimes these excursions can go wrong. Olivia Attwood told Metro: "Amber, Montana and I we were being chaperoned on our one day off and we ran away to a bar and started doing shots!
"We got in so much trouble, I thought they were going to chuck us off the island! I’ve never seen anyone so angry."
After this, Olivia wasn't allowed a day off.
