24 hours after the final: Everything that happens to the Islanders when they leave the villa

They stay in SEPARATE hotels??

We did it guys – we made it through Love Island 2019. Now we can all acquire some semblance of a social life before summer ends and Winter Love Island starts.

Amber and Greg were our winners this year, proving a winning combination of being really fit and also being really nice trumps the fact they had only known each other less than a fortnight.

But what will happen to the finalists now the show’s over? We know where they’ll end up (Celebs Go Dating, Celebability, selling porn of themselves), but how will they get there? This is what happens in the days after the Love Island final wraps:

They have a huge party and get litty af

The moment the final stops taping, the Islanders get to party with producers, Caroline Flack AND Ian Stirling. The Islanders normally only get two drinks a night, but for the afterparty they get as much rose as they want.

Series two’s Kady McDermott told Cosmo UK: “We all just got drunk, basically. It was just a really fun night.”

Last night, Tommy filmed himself on his Instagram story saying: “I'm very excited! Have got the belly out, have got the wine. God bless you all!”

The producers do a ‘debrief’ with the finalists about any negative press they’ll get

The dumped Islanders are played a clip of previous contestants saying what post villa life is like. Callum, who was the first to go, told The Ringer: "They say things like, regardless of how liked you are, you’re going to get people who will troll you, and just to ignore it."

The producers also speak to the Islanders about how they’ve been received on social media. Megan Barton-Hanson told iNews: “Nothing could have prepared me for the full extent of it.

"A friend who was running my social media had to turn off the comments, as I was receiving death threats and 99 per cent were slut-shaming me."

In May, Love Island announced it would be giving contetsants "bespoke training" for how to handle the media and their finances throughout post-villa life.

They're given psychological support if they want it

Following the deaths of Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Gradon, Love Island has said ex-Islanders will be given eight weeks of therapy following the show's conclusion.

The show also promises to maintain "proactive contact" with ex-contestants after the show ends.

They’re given their phones back, but only after a few days

While Chris Hughes was given his phone back almost immediately, Olivia Attwood had to wait till the end of the afterparty.

Olivia told HuffPost: "I just remember going on my Instagram and seeing how many followers I had.

"It was like, 'What the hell?'

"I just could not.

“I went in there with a thousand followers and I came out with about 400,000. That was the point we thought, ‘Oh my God what are our lives now?'."

They struggle to piece together what’s gone on in their absence

Chris Hughes told HuffPost it was difficult to get any solid information from his family. He said: "I wanted to actually speak to the people back home but they didn’t really give me the time.

"They just wanted to say how proud they were, which was really sweet."

They stay in separate hotels in Mallorca before they’re flown back to the UK

According to Cosmopolitan, the Islanders stay in separate Mallorca hotels on the night of the final.

They’re flown back at some point over the following two days. The airport is usually packed out with fans. Chris Hughes told HuffPost: "It felt like a welcome back for a sports team. It was just crazy."

They usually launch straight into a follow up show

Series three winner Olivia’s reunion with her family was filmed for an ITV2 show. She told HuffPost: "It was sort of quick.

"We saw them for an hour and then we were rushed off and did some more filming."

She continued: "Until about three days after I got back, I didn’t see my family properly.

"You needed your parents there but we had filming to do, there was press. That was the first time we got put into this kind of ‘world’.

"We did all the press and thought, ‘What on earth is this?’. Now it’s second nature."

They stay in a hotel when they get back, with a partner if they want

Those who want to share a bed with the person they coupled up with during the show are allowed to once they get back to London. The finalists all stay in the same hotel.

Olivia told Cosmopolitan: “The first thing we did after arriving home was to go to London for some more filming.

"At the hotel, it was the first time a brand sent me clothes as I had nothing to wear and I honestly couldn't get over it. I was such a lover of fashion.

"I went from not being able to afford a £10 top for a night out, to being sent beautiful clothing at my hotel. It was mind-boggling to me."

Management agencies all rush to sign them

Love Island producers don't generally want people with pre-existing management, but having a manager going into the process evidently helps a bit. Case in point: Maura already has her club appearances sorted.

Last year, Megan Barton-Hanson had similarly been booked in for an appearance at Essex nightclub Faces a week before the 2018 final.

Chris Hughes, on the other hand, met with "five or six" different agencies before signing with one he liked. Tommy, Amber, and Curtis are among the finalists already represented by management.

The doors are thrown open for a year of plugging terrible spon-con on Instagram

This year’s Islanders have been reluctant to dip their toes in the waters of tragic sponsored posts on Instagram, which is LAME. But if last year’s contestants are anything to go by, we’re in for a year of wishing we’d never made them famous in the first place. We’ll always have Georgia’s era-shaping car air freshener endorsement.
