Jeremy Corbyn will stand down if Labour lose the next election
It’s…………a hung parliament, inevitably
Jeremy Corbyn will step down if Labour lose the next general election, shadow chancellor John McDonnell has said.
Corbyn stayed on after failing to gain a majority in 2017, and a general election is mooted as "definitely happening soon", albeit in the same way a Big House Tidy is.
“I can't see so. What we'd do is as the tradition, which is have an election for a new leader.” McDonnell said in an interview with GQ, when asked if Corbyn could stay on despite losing a general election.
In the interview, he called Corbyn "the fittest person I know" (because he goes running every morning).
McDonnell covered the standard "we'll definitely get a majority" and "we wouldn't form a coalition with anyone" patter necessary for any political interview.
He also said he'd probably step down himself if Labour lost, presumably to spend time growing his collection of really nawty cardigans.
