Heartbroken teens are coping with Oxbridge rejection by making TikToks

How did you cope with rejection from Oxbridge? Did you angrily tweet about it? Burn your letter? Or did you just have a good cry to your mum? Well, whatever you did it’s nothing on the genius TikTokers of Gen Z, who are channelling their sadness into jokes videos on the app you should really all be using right now.

One such visionary is Kimi, an A-level student from London, who told The Tab she was “obviously pretty upset” about the rejection.

Kimi says she made the TikTok as “a quick bit of therapy” and that it “makes the entire situation a lot lighter and less serious.”

“Everyone makes jokes about their problems or their emotions and TikToks are perfect for that Gen Z self-depreciating humour you wouldn’t get in other generations,” she says.

“It’s also a big fuck you to the seriousness of that institution because everyone looks up to them, but then making jokes about them is essentially denying their existence.”
