The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez creator confirms he wants a second season

It would include speaking to Pearl Fernandez and Isauro Aguirre from prison

The creator of Netflix true crime series, The Trials Of Gabriel Fernandez, has confirmed he has ideas for a season two.

The series, which is currently in Netflix’s top 10 list worldwide, looks at the life and death of eight-year-old Gabriel, who was tortured and killed by his mother and her boyfriend.

The six-part documentary is listed as a Netflix “limited series” which means the story is told from start to finish within the episodes, but the show’s creator has said there is still a possibility of more to come.

The creator, Brian Knappenberger, told Entertainment Weekly that whilst he was making the series he gave Gabriel’s mother, Pearl Fernandez, and her boyfriend, Isauro Aguirre, a special phone number to reach him on. Neither of them did get in contact, but he remains hopeful that they might one day call and give their sides of the story.

He told Entertainment Weekly: “There are still so many unanswered questions. So if they wanted to talk to me, I would absolutely talk to them on the record.”

If plans for a season two of The Trials Of Gabriel Fernandez did go ahead, this would allow Pearl Fernandez and Isauro Aguirre a chance to give their version of events and an insight into their lives behind bars. Pearl is currently serving a life sentence with no chance of parole at Chowchilla State Women’s Prison in California. Isauro is on death row at San Quentin State Prison in California.

Netflix is yet to comment on any further episodes.
