‘The Innocence Files’ is Netflix’s chilling new true crime series which lands today
One man involved was on Death Row for a murder he didn’t commit
Hayley SoenA new true crime documentary series has just landed on Netflix, called The Innocence Files. The nine-part series aims to expose the American criminal justice system and focuses on wrongful convictions.
The Netflix Original series looks at eight cases in total and each episode is ordered by different themes – so you don’t have to watch them all in order.

The Innocence Files looks at the work of the Innocence Project
The nine-episode series focuses on the work of the Innocence Project, which is a nonprofit legal organisation that uses DNA evidence to acquit those who have been jailed for crimes they didn’t do. There are eight of these cases explored in The Innocence Files and they look at the reasons why the convictions happened such as flawed evidence, misconduct and eyewitnesses wrongfully identifying the accused.
The cases looked into are those of Chester Hollman III, Kenneth Wyniemko, Alfred Dewayne Brown, Thomas Haynesworth, Franky Carrillo, Levon Brooks, Kennedy Brewer, and Keith Harward. All of these men believe they have been victims to a misarraige of justice.

Hollman spent 28 years in jail for a murder he didn’t commit and Wyniemko was convicted of criminal sexual conduct (15 counts), armed robbery and breaking and entering and was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years. Alfred Dewayne Brown spent nearly a decade on Texas’ death row for murdering a police officer whilst Thomas Haynesworth was wrongfully convicted of sexual assault, robbery and abduction.
Franky Carrillo was also found guilty of murder, even though he was in a different city when the crime took place and Levon Brooks was sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting and murdering a three-year-old girl. Kennedy Brewer was accused of killing his girlfriend’s three-year-old daughter and Keith Howard spent 33 years in prison for a murder and sexual assault he didn’t commit.
The Netflix synopsis for the series says: “The Innocence Project unravels missteps and deceit in a series of wrongful convictions, exposing the injustice inflicted on victims and the accused.”
