A serious investigation into whether Paul Mescal is actually dating Phoebe Bridgers

Now that probably the fittest human on the planet Paul Mescal’s been nominated for a bunch of Emmy awards, he’s pretty much all everyone’s talking about at the moment.

You’ve probably read that Paul’s been using the celeb dating app Raya and thought that meant you had a shot with him, but sorry to break it to you that there’s a new threat to your completely realistic dream: 25-year-old American singer Phoebe Bridgers.

The two are yet to be photographed or upload anything together and the evidence is sadly a bit sparse here so of course we had to dig a bit deeper to see what’s really going on, but there’s been a few tweets and witnesses that help to decode this potential love. Here’s all the evidence we have so far:

Paul reportedly flew from the US to Ireland to have breakfast with Phoebe

The Daily Mail reported that Paul had flown into Ireland to have a ‘cosy’ breakfast with Phoebe in the Lemon Leaf Cafe in Cork, proven by the cafe’s Tweet thanking them for coming.

“There were a lot of disappointed girls around here when they heard he had been in and they didn’t see him” a friend told The Daily Mail, so maybe he didn’t see anyone else during that stay? Interesting

Their online chemistry is very real

In May, Phoebe interviewed Mescal in an Instagram live stream which feels a bit more like a date than an interview and you can really feel the chemistry there. The Cut reported Phoebe calls Paul her “internet crush” and she felt a “little pitter-patter in my heart” when Paul followed her on Instagram (think we all would tbh).

Paul basically replied to Phoebe thirst-tweeting about him

Phoebe Tweeted after finishing Normal People that she’s now “sad and horny, oh wait” according to The Cut, to which Paul replied “I’m officially dead” which is a p r e t t y flirty response.

Would you really reply that to someone who’s just a friend? Really??

Paul’s been told to use Raya because it’s “packed with attractive and creative women”

Vogue has reported someone told Paul to get on Raya to find “attractive and creative women” which is EXACTLY what Phoebe is. For the uninitiated, Raya is an exclusive dating app frequented by celebrities. Users have to be invited to join by someone already on it and most of the clientele are rich, famous, or both. Raya users also have to include a song as part of their profile and Pauls’ is reportedly a Phoebe Bridgers song!!!

Paul included one of Phoebe’s songs in his playlists when he was working on Normal People

Whilst getting into character for Normal People, The Cut says that Paul listened to Phoebe’s song Funeral, whacking the song in his playlists. Fellow music lovers would know that is a pretty big deal.

Sorry to be telling you all this, but maybe put some Ben and Jerry’s in the freezer just in case this turns out to be true.
