In the show, he’s seen waiting to take out her older sister Sarah, and Diana runs through the room dressed as a tree and saying she’s rehearsing for a Shakespeare play at school. However, the show has been known for showing some aspects of real life inaccurately and dramatising situations. So, how did Prince Charles meet Diana? And was she really as young as the series says she was?

How did Prince Charles and Diana actually meet?
Unfortunately, Prince Charles and Diana’s first meeting isn’t a cute and shy conversation whilst Diana was dressed up for a Midsummer’s Night Dream rehearsals. They did however first meet at Diana’s family estate in Althorp and he was dating Sarah Spencer.

In an interview after their engagement, Diana told the story of how they met. She said: “We sort of met in a plowed field.” Charles added: “I remember thinking what a very jolly and amusing and attractive 16-year-old she was. I mean, great fun, and bouncy and full of life and everything.”
The pair met during a grouse hunt on the family estate, and Charles was a guest of Sarah’s. Diana was reportedly “head over heels” for Charles from the day they met, and in their engagement interview recalls thinking he was “pretty amazing” when she first saw him in person.

What was the age difference between Charles and Diana when they met?
Prince Charles and Diana first met in 1977. At this time Diana was aged 16 and Charles was 29, as shown in The Crown season four. This means their age difference was 13 years.
