Netflix’s Night Stalker: How many people did Richard Ramirez kill?
It could be more than we know
Netflix’s latest true crime series is a four part show exploring the crimes of serial killer Richard Ramirez.
The new series has been called “terrifying” and the “best true crime yet” and it explains the police investigation into the horrific crimes Ramirez committed in the summers of 1984 and 1985 in California.

Over the course of two years he committed multiple murders, attempted murders, burglaries and rape. He was eventually caught and sentenced to life in prison.
But just how many people did the Night Stalker kill?
Richard Ramirez was found guilty of the murders of 13 people at the end of his trial in 1989.
His first victim of the Night Stalker killings was 79-year-old Jennie Vincow, who Ramirez murdered on 28th June 1984 when he broke into her home.
He then did not kill again until the following year when he murdered Dale Okazasi and Tsai-Lian “Veronica” Yu separately on the night of 17th March, 1985.
From then onwards Ramirez went on a killing spree until he was caught on 31st August 1985, by an angry mob. He had by then murdered 13 people.

His other victims were: Vincent and Maxine Zazzara, William Doi, Mable “Ma” Bell, Mary Louise Cannon, Joyce Lucille Nelson, Max and Lela Kneiding, Chainarong Khovananth and Elyas Abowath.
With the exception of Tsai-Lian “Veronica” Yu, who was dragged from her car and killed, all the other victims were murdered in their homes.
Are there any more known victims of Richard Ramirez?
Ramirez was given 19 life sentences and was on death row. In 2009 police connected Ramirez with the murder and rape of a nine-year-old girl, Mei Leung, in 1984. Police were able to connect him to the case after his DNA matched a sample collected at the crime scene.
He murdered her in basement of a hotel he was living in in San Francisco. This is thought to be his first killing.
According to detectives it is unlikely Ramirez left a gap between the murders he committed in 1984 and 1985.
Ramirez died in 2013 in prison and so it is now unlikely we shall ever truly know the number of victims.
