New cast members and filming dates: Everything we know about season two of Bridgerton
If Netflix could release it now, that would be great
I don’t know about you, but ever since Netflix announced that Bridgerton is getting a season two it’s been all I can think about. I need more of the Duke and Duchess, I have to know about Anthony’s love life, I need copious amounts of Penelope and Colin content and I need even more Bridgerton memes injected into my actual, real life veins.
After its release, Bridgerton became the most watched original series Netflix has ever had – so it was no surprise that the scandalous period drama got quickly renewed for a second season. It’s even been rumoured that there could be eight seasons – one for each of the Julia Quinn novels the series is being based on.
So strap yourself in, because the series is here to stay – for a very long time. Here’s everything we know so far about season two of Bridgerton on Netflix.
Season two of Bridgerton on Netflix will be all about Anthony’s love story
The first season was based on the first Bridgerton book, The Duke and I, in the eight-part series by Julia Quinn. The second series will be based on the second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me.
This book focuses on Daphne’s older brother, Anthony Bridgerton. Anthony has chosen a wife, but she has a medalling older sister called Kate who is desperate to stop the wedding happening. What’s more, when he closes his eyes at night, Kate’s the woman who fills Anthony’s dreams.
A synopsis for the book adds: “Contrary to popular belief, Kate is quite sure that reformed rakes do not make the best husbands—and Anthony Bridgerton is the most wicked rogue of them all. Kate is determined to protect her sister—but she fears her own heart is vulnerable. And when Anthony’s lips touch hers, she’s suddenly afraid she might not be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself.” I’m pretty sure you can figure out what’s happening here.
And Netflix has already cast the new leading lady for the second season!!!
It has been announced that Simone Ashley would play Anthony’s love interest in the second season. Simone is most known for her role as Olivia in Sex Education and will play Kate Sharma who is called Kate Sheffield in the Bridgerton books by Julia Quinn.
Kate is described as a “smart, headstrong young woman”, and when announcing the news Netflix added that she “suffers no fools — Anthony Bridgerton very much included.”
There will be more additions to the cast for season two
It’s not just Kate who will be a fresh face in the new episodes. According to Deadline the series has been casting “several new roles” with show-runner Chris Van Dusen adding: “We have a bunch of new characters we are going to be introducing.”
Of course, there will be lots of returning cast members too. Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed the cast, but I think it goes without saying that the likes of the Duke and Duchess, the other Bridgerton brothers, Penelope and Eloise, Lady Danbury and the rest of the gang will for sure be back. We might even get more Nigel Berbrooke, who knows.
Filming and shoots for the second season of Bridgerton are starting very soon
When Netflix announced season two, the post read: “The incomparable cast of Bridgerton will return to production in Spring 2021.” Filming is scheduled to start in March 2021.
Shoots and fittings for the casts members have reportedly already started and filming is going to take around six months. This means we will probably see the second season around the same time season one was released, this year. Season one was released on Christmas Day, and a second season would be the best present anyone could ever wish for.
I NEED IT NOW.
