Lecturers at more than 50 UK universities have voted to go on strike this winter
Here’s a full breakdown of the unis where lecturers are planning to strike
Lecturers and university staff have at 58 universities around the UK have voted to go on strike this winter.
Two votes were held, one on whether to strike over pensions and the other over pay. 33 universities voted to strike in relation to both questions, 21 just over pay, and four over pensions only.
UCU, the lecturers’ union, is demanding a £2.5k pay hike for all staff, as well as serious progress on the issues of pay gaps and precarious contracts.
With regards to pensions, UCU is arguing that recent changes to the pension scheme have led to lecturers being far worse off.
UCU general secretary Jo Grady said: ‘This result is a clear vote of no confidence in the so-called leaders of our universities, with staff telling them in no uncertain terms that they have had enough of pay and working conditions being run into the ground.
A spokesperson for Universities UK told i the result of the vote as “disappointing,” adding: “Universities facing the prospect of industrial action are well prepared to mitigate the impact on students’ learning and minimise disruption for those staff choosing not to take part. The majority of university staff are not members of UCU.”
Jo Grady has previously told The Tab that strike action will most likely take place before Christmas.
