I don’t mean to alarm anyone, but season two of Emily in Paris drops on Netflix tomorrow, and the early reviews of the new episodes are already in!!

Our favourite silly little drama with silly little Emily Cooper is back, and our love to hate relationship with her is going to be more rife than ever. She’s back for more social media managing in the French capital, this time with even more romance and drama than before. So, here’s what to expect from season two of Emily in Paris and exactly what the reviews so far have said. Strap in: We’re off again!!

Emily in Paris season two drops on Netflix tomorrow and the trash is back!

Now more entrenched in her life in Paris, season two sees Emily’s getting better at navigating the city but still struggling with the idiosyncrasies of French life. After stumbling into a love triangle with her neighbour and her first real French friend in season one, Emily is now determined to focus on her work — which is getting more complicated by the day. In French class, she meets a fellow expat who both infuriates and intrigues her. Yep, more romance is on the cards!

Reviews of Emily in Paris season two say it’s going to be just as silly but great as the first season

Right, we all know what happened when season one was released. It was completely slated as being cliche, trashy and borderline offensive towards French people. However, as time has gone on, we have widely come to accept Emily in Paris for not even trying to be good – it’s a show that knows it is trashy, and it’s nothing but escapism and good fun.

The reviews of season of two of Emily in Paris pretty much promise much more of the same. The Independent gives the series five stars (yes really!!), saying the show beautifully creates its own make belief, and is in on the joke of it being a little rubbish. “Ridiculous critic-proof escapism that is brilliantly in on the joke,” the review calls the series, adding it’s got a “clunkingly obvious” script, “thin” characters and plot but is “exactly what it is, harmless escapism”. “It winks at the audience,” the review reads. “We know this is all ridiculous, but don’t worry about it. Just keep watching. Look at Emily in her dresses, Emily hauling her big suitcase onto the train, Emily sitting in front of the Louvre. Emily in Paris is as close as TV gets to being completely frictionless.” The review concludes with simply, “you win, Emily”.

However, The Telegraph takes a more serious approach. It rates the season two stars and says it is “now as offensive to the British as it is to the French”. The review says new character Alfie, who is Emily’s love interest, is terrible, “likes football, only eats in greasy spoons, calls everyone ‘mate’ and hates Paris”.

However, even this review knows we still love it. “Did I enjoy it? Yes. Is it any good? No,” it says. “By the end, I think I’d worked out why I enjoyed Emily in Paris at some level. This isn’t a show aimed at me. It’s aimed at 12-year-old me, who would have found Gabriel dreamy (rather than two-timing) and liked Emily’s Bratz doll styling.” I feel this.
