In what is perhaps the most bizarre crossover of our era, Libby Mae has taken to TikTok to defend ex-Love Islander Molly-Mae Hague and her podcast comments which led to people comparing Molly with Margaret Thatcher.
In the last week Molly-Mae has come under fire for “tone deaf” comments she made on a podcast in December, clips of which have now been circulating on social media. On the podcast, Molly essentially said people just need to work harder: She said we all have “the same 24 hours in the day”, and “if you want something enough, you can achieve it”. It did not go down well on social media to say the least, with people even comparing Molly-Mae to Margaret Thatcher.
Today, TikToker Libby Mae has come to the defence of Molly-Mae, saying she agrees with the podcast comments.
Libby has posted a video with the “oh shit” sound, saying “All this Molly-Mae back flash [sic] but I low-key agree with her!!!” Libby captioned her video with: “It has been misunderstood. She was saying that if you work hard enough then you can achieve anything you want. Don’t understand the backflash [sic]”.

Less than 20 minutes later, Libby posted a new video, with text saying: “Do you actually ignore every bit of hate you get on social media”, with a “yeah” sound on it. She captioned the video: “I’m only human, I make mistakes, I learn and I also have feelings. It is all behind a screen but please be think [sic] about what you say before you say it.” She did not say whether this video was regarding her defending Molly-Mae or over another issue.
Her previous video about Molly is still up, and has had over 60k views in just over an hour as well as almost 150 comments, mainly from people criticising her.
A statement released by Molly-Mae’s reps acknowledged everyone comes from different backgrounds, said the clips on social media had been taken out of context and Molly had only been talking about her own experiences. Molly-Mae has posted a statement on her own Instagram story this afternoon, saying: “I apologise to the people who have been affected negatively or misunderstood the meaning of what I said in the podcast.” You can read it in full here.
