Okay so here is the ambiguous ending of Boiling Point on Netflix fully explained
Someone PLEASE tell me what happens to Andy!
Boiling Point, the thrilling one take film starring Stephen Graham as a top chef under mounting pressure, has proven itself as one of the best films of the year so far thanks to amazing performances and Philip Barantini’s unrelenting direction. Now Boiling Point is on Netflix, more people than ever are tuning in to see what all the fuss is about. But there’s a lot of questions surrounding the final moments of the film leaving fans to make their own conclusion about what happens to Andy in the end – here is the ending of Boiling Point fully explained.
The night from hell in the kitchen from hell
Boiling Point is one of the tensest 90 minutes you can put yourself through – film wise. But it’s a viewing experience not to be missed out on. Stephen Graham stars as Andy, the head chef of an upmarket restaurant in Dalston in East London. We start the film as Andy is on the phone going in for a busy shift over the festive period. He’s annoyed to learn that a health inspector will be docking the hygiene rating to a three-star, and it’s mostly his fault.
Andy is separated from his wife and son and has serious issues with drugs and alcohol. The kitchen is tense, and divisions between the front of house staff and the chefs is palpable to say the least. A rude table are racist towards a young waitress, a couple are in and the man wants to propose to his girlfriend who has a nut allergy, and obnoxious “influencers” put pressure on the staff to make them a dish off-menu. Things go from bad to badder when Andy’s ex boss Alastair arrives with a food critic to try the restaurant out unannounced.
It’s revealed that Alastair gifted Andy £200,000 to open the restaurant, but now finds himself in debt and wants a repayment. Andy can’t afford to give the money back. Alastair demands he does, or lets him join him managing the business. Andy has a big rivalry with Alastair and clearly wants absolutely neither of these options.
Despite pre-warning, and despite Andy’s team Carly and Freeman doing as best they can, the customer with the nut allergy ends up consuming nuts and has a serious allergic reaction and needs to be rushed to hospital urgently.
Boiling Point ending explained
Andy calls a meeting to try and get to the bottom of how the customer ended up consuming nuts when they prepped in advance – but an argument starts and Freeman confronts Andy over his drink and drug usage. Carly tries to stop it, but after Andy tells her that Alastair wanted him to pin the blame on her she quits and says she’s had enough. The allergic reaction was Andy’s fault – he told a sous chef to use a different garnish as substitute and it was the one with nuts in.
With the stress building up, Andy goes to his office and takes cocaine and drinks more. He rings his wife promising to change and says he’s going to go to rehab, but before he can go back and face the tumultuous restaurant he collapses to the floor. Andy’s fate is left completely up in the air. We see the staff rushing to his aid, but the credits come up before we know if he lives or dies. It’s ambiguous what happens to Andy but it’s presumably a heart attack after the substance abuse. Does Andy live or die? You can make your own cheery mind up about that one. But WHAT a great film!
