Two months after their trial, what are Johnny Depp and Amber Heard up to now?

Johnny Depp reportedly just signed a seven figure contract with Dior

It’s been just over two months since the trial of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard came to an end, with Amber Heard losing the case and being ordered to pay Depp £8million in damages.

Depp had sued Heard for defamation following an op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post in which she called herself a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Heard did not mention Depp by name but he claimed her piece caused him to lose acting roles, and therefore damaged his career. After six weeks in court, the jury found Heard guilty of defamation and she was ordered to pay £8million in damages on 1st June.

Since the trial ended the two have been leading very different lives with reports of Johnny Depp landing another Dior contract whilst Amber Heard was reportedly unable to pay her legal fees. There’s also been a lot of change in their celebrity friendship circles. When Depp won the trial a bunch of his famous friends rushed to show support by liking his Instagram post but now many are taking back their like, whilst Amber is holidaying with her friends who supported her in the trial.

In the two months since there’s also been reports of Depp spending £50,000 on a curry, and Amber Heard getting a book deal.

This everything that’s happened in Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s lives since their trial ended:

Johnny Depp was in England touring with legendary guitarist Jeff Beck when the verdict for the trial came through. He was seen celebrating in a Newcastle pub alongside Sam Fender, who later apologised for hanging out with Johnny, saying in a statement: “In the context of the trial, it was severely misinformed.”

Johnny and Jeff were also said to have spent £50,000 on a curry meal in Birmingham to celebrate the verdict for their tour crew. They reportedly hired out a restaurant and left a large tip as well.

Shortly after the trial Johnny also launched a TikTok account which now has over 16 million followers and four videos, most of which are of himself performing alongside Jeff Beck. His first video however, was dedicated to his fans thanking them for their support in the trial.

Johnny has continued touring and playing festivals with Jeff Beck, they even brought out an album together called 18. He’s also been busy selling art. At the end of the July the BBC reported Depp had sold nearly £3million of his own artwork in a flash sale in London. He also raised around £660,000 by selling his NFTs and donated the money to a number of children’s hospitals around the world, including the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, which is where Amber Heard had pledged to donate half her $7million divorce settlement to.

Recently it was reported Depp had renewed his contract with Dior to continue being the face of Sauvage cologne. Johnny was said to have signed a seven figure deal to continue working with the brand.

Since the trial ended, a number of Johnny Depp fans have crowdfunded to unseal over 6,000 pages of sealed pre-trial court documents. The documents contain evidence both sides wanted to present to support their argument.

After it was announced Johnny had won the case a number of celebrities rushed to like his victory post on Instagram, however, in the last week many of them have removed their like including Sophie Turner, Joey King and Bella Hadid.

Johnny has also returned to acting and has begun filming French period drama Jeanne Du Barry where he will play King Louis XV. The first image from the film has been released and features Johnny in period costume complete with a black blindfold over his eyes.

Amber Heard

Following the verdict Amber Heard released a statement on her Instagram saying how sad and disappointed she was to have lost the case.

She said: “The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to up to the disproportionate power, influencer and say of my ex-husband.

“I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. t sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spike up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It set backs the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.

“I believe Johnny’s attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom or Speech and ignore evidence that so conclusive that we won in the uk. I’m sad I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost I thought I had as an American – to speak freely and openly.”

Shortly after the trial Heard’s lawyer Elaine Charlson Bredehoft said Amber would be unable to pay the damages. Amber appeared on an NBC Today special interview where she shared her feelings on the trial and verdict and said she would defend her testimony until her dying day.

Since then Amber and her legal team have applied for a retrial of the case, citing problems with a juror as their reasoning. They claimed that: “Juror No 15 was not the individual summoned for jury duty on 11 April, 2022, and therefore was not part of the jury panel and could not have properly served on the jury at this trial.” However, Judge Penney Azcarate, has thrown out their application for a retrial.

Amber and her team have also filed an appeal against the outcome of the trial as they “believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment.”

A few weeks after the trial ended it was rumoured Amber was in talks for a book deal as she considered her career in Hollywood “over”. A source told OK! Magazine: “Amber considers her career in Hollywood over. She’s already in talks and is excited about it. At this point, she has nothing to lose and wants to tell all.”

It has recently been reported that Amber has sold her California home for $1.05million which she originally bought in 2019 for nearly half the new sale price. She was also spotted shopping at TJ Maxx with her sister a few weeks after the trial verdict.

Amber has been said to have been travelling Israel recently with her young daughter and friends including journalist Eve Barlow, who was banned from the trial after she was caught texting and tweeting from the front row of the courtroom.
