This weekend has been a massive one for Andrew Tate and his downfall. He was banned from Facebook, Instagram and TikTok and people couldn’t be happier about it. He is known for his controversial takes on social media about masculinity and women, over the last few months he has grown an insane amount in terms of popularity and followers.

Since the 35-year-old first came to light for sharing his opinions online, there have been endless calls to remove his platform. The charity Rape Crisis England and Wales branded his content as a “clear exmaple of rape culture, where rape and sexual violence are minimised and survivors are blamed for crimes committed against them.”

From being banned by Meta to claiming everything was all a comedy act and having his Hustlers Uni shut down, here’s a recap of Andrew Tate’s highly eventful weekend.

Andrew Tate was banned from Facebook and Instagram

Meta banning Andrew Tate from Instagram and Facebook for violating its policies is what kickstarted his big weekend downfall.

He had 4.7 million Instagram followers around the time his account was removed, a number which grew intensely from around one million back in June earlier this year.

Meta says it removed Andrew from its platforms for violating its policies on dangerous organisations and individuals but didn’t provide any further details.

Hustlers University was then shut down

Andrew Tate’s Hustler University was shut down after he was banned by Meta on its platforms.

Hustlers University, Andrew Tate’s money-making academy, offered a marketing programme which allowed students to earn a commission for each new member signed up using their links. It charged a monthly fee of $50 and offered lessons on crypto investing and drop shipping. Apparently students would earn tens of thousands of dollars a month.

He claimed he was just ‘playing a comedic character’ after his social media bans

Andrew Tate finally spoke out after being banned on Instagram and Facebook. He claimed he was “playing a comedic character” and that his comments were taken out of context and he has “dedicated over one million dollars to charities supporting women.”

Tate also released a statement to various news outlets saying: “It is very uncomfortable that old videos of me, where I was playing a comedic character, have been taken out of context and amplified to the point where people believe absolutely false narratives about me. In the last two weeks I dedicated over one million dollars to charities supporting women. I posted this on Instagram, but Instagram ignored it. Internet sensationalism has purported the idea that I’m anti-woman when nothing could be further from the truth.

“This is simply hate mobs who are uninterested in the facts of the matter trying to personally attack me. They twist facts and produce fancy documents full of half truths and lies to attack people they don’t like.” Andrew Tate then went on to say he will “always” have millions of fans around the world and says his platform is a “beacon of light, teaching young people of all genders and races how to respect one another for years to come.”

Andrew Tate was permanently banned from TikTok

Andrew Tate who is known for his controversial and provocative comments about women and masculinity was permanently banned from TikTok. In a statement given to the Washington Post, a spokesperson from TikTok said Andrew Tate’s content “attacks, threatens, incites violence against, or otherwise dehumanises an individual group.”

The platform said it was working to remove duplicate clips of Andrew Tate’s content. Joe Mulhall, director of UK advocacy group Hope Not Hate told BBC News: “We’ve provided significant evidence to the major social media platforms, including Meta, about his activity and why he must be removed. We welcome Meta’s swift action to remove Andrew Tate and we’ll be putting pressure on TikTok to follow this example. They must act now to prevent further spread of these extremist views.” Joe then added Tate possessed a “genuine threat to young men, radicalising them toward extremist misogyny, racism and homophobia.”
