UoB continues to climb in the University league tables

Birmingham students will be smiling once again, following the news that the University has risen in the league table rankings.

The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide placed Birmingham 15th in the UK, moving up one position from last year and jumping 9 places from its ranking in 2012.

The new rankings confirm that the University is going from strength-to-strength, after it was made University of the Year in 2014 and recently ranked 64th in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings.

There was little movement at the top of the table, with Oxbridge maintaining joint first in the rankings and only minor reordering in the top 10.

Meanwhile, Loughborough University provided the largest improvement, shooting up 8 places to 13th in the table.

VC Sir David Eastwood believes UoB can be the ‘best of the rest’

UoB students will be particularly pleased by the Universities ratings for student satisfaction and graduate prospects, which were scored at 82.8 and 84.3 respectively.

It is also worth noting that UoB’s graduate prospects were considerably higher than those universities around them in the league table.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Vice-Chancellor Sir David Eastwood believes that the University of Birmingham can become the “best of the rest”- outside the elite circle of Oxbridge and London.

The Times guide commended Birmingham for its research and advances in scientific studies, whilst also pointing to the success of other top universities as evidence that Birmingham is capable of realising its ambitions as a leading UK university.

The University was also praised for its facilities and its large-scale campus investment and redevelopment, which promises to increase Birmingham’s standing further.
