Take it away: Selly Oak takeaways fail to meet health requirements

Yum Yum Chicken and Chicken.com need to clean up their act

| UPDATED

Selly Oak’s much-loved Yum Yum Chicken has fallen foul after FAILING a recent health inspection.

Yum Yum Chicken, on Pershore Road, has been branded with an alarming zero by the Food Standards Agency following a recent food hygiene inspection.

And it’s not just Yum Yum Chicken serving questionable food. Chicken.com received a less than respectful rating of one.

The Selly Oak establishments have been forced to clean up their act if they want to continue capturing the student’s hearts with their chicken.

The shameful ranking indicates they have failed to follow basic hygiene rules by not preparing, cooking or storing food properly.

The food inspectors also noted there was a lack of safety management as well as poor conditions, and there could even have been vermin or cockroaches in the food preparation area.

The Food Standards Agency inspects the following:

How food is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored

The cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities of the building

How the business is safely managed

A second year economics student said: “I walked into Yum Yum Chicken and the staff looked almost surprised to see me.

“I ordered a chicken burger and cheesy chips – the chicken burger itself was good but the chips tasted undercooked and bland. Overall, I’d give it a 5/10”.

And third year history finalist, James Kettel was far from impressed on hearing the news.

“To be honest, I’m not exactly shocked. You know when you go in there what you’re getting.

“All the same, now I know just how bad the hygiene standards are, I wouldn’t go to either of them again.”
