We caught a man trying to masturbate outside our Selly home

Close your blinds on Hubert Road

| UPDATED

Just before Christmas my housemate was returning from a night out with her family only to find a man masturbating outside our house on Hubert Road.

My housemate Katey was returning from the German market when her horrified cousin pointed out the man standing outside and trying to look in through our windows while masturbating.

Most of the house had left for the holidays, but we were all shaken by the incident.

Katey told The Tab: “When my sister, cousin and I came home at about eight, I got to the front door, and was looking in my bag trying to find my keys.

“My cousin looks over to the alley and asked ‘what is he?’, and then realised what was happening.”

They saw a man dressed in black holding his penis and were so terrified they quickly ran inside.

Katey continued: “The weird part was he knew that we’d seen him and seemed completely unfazed by it and just carried on whilst looking at us like we were the crazy ones.

“And then obviously we all panicked and got into the house as quickly as possible because it was just bizarre.”

The man then walked round the front of the house and was looking into the front window before Katey called 101: “We got a quick response from them and some officers arrived to talk to him – he was still strolling around and trying to peer into the house.

“As soon as the police arrived he did a runner, and they turned the sirens and lights on and tried to chase him but he’d already got too far for them to find him.

“They just told us to ring back if we saw him doing it again but fortunately that hasn’t happened.”

The police confirmed the details of the incident, and this is what they told us: “This report was received at around 8:45pm on 12 December.

“It was recorded as suspicious activity and the man’s description was circulated to officers on patrol in the area and across police systems.”

Katey told me and the rest of our housemates shortly after the incident.

We were almost as shocked and disgusted as she was, as our WhatsApp group shows:

When our house first heard of the news..

It got creepier…

Luckily since December there have been no other similar incidents.

But this event, combined with the recent spate of violent attacks and muggings, reminds our house just how scary it is to live in Selly.
