Times Higher Education reveals world’s top 150 young universities

Aston came 77th


Times Higher Education (THE) has published a list of the top 150 universities in the world that are under 50 years old.

The universities featured were described as “young, exciting and dynamic” by the editor of THE rankings, Phil Baty.

Aston University in Birmingham, which was founded in 1985 but became a university in 1966, came 77th, making the top 100, and ranking 7th out of UK universities. The university is renowned as a business school, and pioneered the idea of integrated placements.

The UK performed well as a whole, with 25 British universities making the list.

Phil Baty said of the UK’s involvement:

“The UK is the most represented country in this year’s list of the world’s best young universities, boasting an impressive 25 universities in the top 150. 11 of these make the top 100, led by the University of Dundee in 16th place.”
