Birmingham moves up four places in Guardian university rankings

We’re also top for dance and drama


The Guardian has released their 2017 rankings of UK universities, and Birmingham has moved up four places, from 17th place to 13th.

The universities were ranked according to various criteria, including student satisfaction and how much universities are spending per student.

We’ve also become the top university for Dance and Drama courses.

Birmingham has improved on almost all of last year’s criteria, scoring especially well on student satisfaction.

Ahead of us are the likes of Oxford, Cambridge, and St Andrews, who all maintained their positions in first, second, and third respectively.

Birmingham’s scores are as follows:

Student satisfaction with course /100: 81.8

Student satisfaction with teaching /100: 90.4

Student satisfaction with feedback /100: 70.0

Student to staff ratio: 14.0

Spend per student /10: 7.3

Average entry tariff: 429.0

Value added score /10: 6.7

Career after 6 months: 86.5
