Birmingham ranked in the top one per cent of unis in the world

Aston didn’t make the top 500

According to a new list by the Centre for World University Rankings, Birmingham is the 12th best uni in the UK. Beaten only by Oxbridge and a few predictable others, we’re sitting pretty near the top of a 25,000 strong table of degree awarding institutions.

Aside from being top 20 in the UK, we were also ranked 158th in the world, putting us firmly in the top 1 per cent of the world’s unis.

The ranking takes into account the usual list of factors including quality of teaching, alumni employment and academic citations as well as a score for “broad impact”.

This puts us ahead of Durham, Leeds, Sheffield and pretty much every other uni in the world. Across town, Aston failed to break into the top 500, coming a less than impressive 760th.

Earlier this year, QS ranked Birmingham the 76th best uni in the world and the 17th best place to study Dentistry.
